Casper provides Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax ballot information

Mailed postcards and scheduled open houses play a part.

Casper, Wyo. (August 30, 2024) – Postcards with the ballot language for all eight propositions for a Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax and notification of open houses will be in voters mailboxes beginning today. On September 12 and September 16 from 5:30 – 8 p.m., open houses at the Casper Recreation Center will give voters the opportunity to ask questions about each proposition. “Our City Council thinks it is important to provide City of Casper voters with Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax ballot information,” said City Manager J. Carter Napier.

On June 18, 2024, Natrona County Commissioners approved the request from the Casper City Council to put a temporary Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax on the general election ballot.  “Based on an estimated amount that could be raised with a temporary one percent addition to Casper’s sales tax and funding needs for infrastructure, Council selected eight stand-alone propositions to be on the ballot,” explained Napier.  Voters will be able to vote on each one.  Should any of the propositions pass, a one percent sales and use tax for purchases made in Casper will be in place for two years or until the target funding amount named on the ballot has been raised, whichever is first.

More information on the proposed Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax can be found at casperwy.gov.
